Next Start Date: 28 January 2019
Tutor: Olive O'Brien
Duration: 6 weeks - online writing class
This online creative writing class for kids is suitable for 8-10 year old students.
The class is one-to-one. The student doesn’t have to be online at a particular day or time.
It is divided up into six modules (six weeks). The student will be given weekly notes, tips and assignments to help them. There is one assignment every week. The tutor will read every assignment and provide written feedback on the assignments. However, the main thing is for the student to have fun when writing!
The first module will look at the importance of reading. We’ll also take a look at the five senses: sight, sound, touch, taste and smell and the importance of observation.
In the second week we’ll talk about characters and how to build a character, including a physical description, background, interests, dislikes, etc.
The third module will deal with setting. If you think of a character, they are in a setting, in a certain place or time. This module will show students how to use a setting for a story.
When you’re writing, there will be a plot, with a beginning, middle and end. Readers will want to find out what happens to the characters. In Week 4, we will examine plot and we will also talk about endings, which can often be the most difficult part of a story.
In the fifth week, we’ll look at dialogue. Students can then practice writing a conversation between two characters.
The sixth and final module will talk about how to revise a story.
